Sustainable Agriculture

At the fair, we wish to foster, support, and demonstrate sustainable agriculture in our region. Farmers who practice sustainable agriculture use techniques to sustain healthy soil and reduce chemical pesticides and fertilizers on the land. They sell locally and thus reduce fuel consumption involved in transporting food over long distances. By quickly getting their product to a local market, they are able to choose varieties based on flavor rather than shelf life. Customers benefit in the short run by getting the healthiest and best tasting produce and in the long run by ensuring food security in their community.

Come learn about sustainable ag practices and ways you can support them at the educational booths at the Fair. Discover local farmers markets and CSAs here in central Maryland. Find resources and support for eating locally.

Stroll the Farmers Market at the Fair and you'll find vegetable, herb and flower plants, local produce, wool roving, yarn and sheepskins, soap and body care products, baked goods, and more.

Don't forget to stop by the "Eat Local Tent" adjacent to the Farmers Market for a series of educational talks focused on local foods, food gardening, and food preservation.

Discover why eating local is better for the earth and better tasting!
